Boards, lists and cards

The three pieces everything else is built from.

The three pieces

A board represents one complete body of work. It contains lists, which are the stages that work moves through. Each list contains cards, which are the individual units of work.

There is no single correct way to divide them. «To do / Doing / Done» covers most cases; a hiring board, by contrast, will have one list per stage of the process.

Moving cards

Cards are dragged within a list or between lists. This is the most frequent operation on a board and therefore the most direct one: moving a card constitutes the change of status, with no need to open it or set any field.

Lists are also reordered by dragging their header, and can be collapsed to hide temporarily those not currently in use. The «`» key collapses the list under the cursor, and the board menu collapses them all at once.

Opening a card

Clicking a card opens it in full: description, checklists, attachments, comments and the rest of its contents. With the cursor over it, the «Enter» key does the same.

Minor changes do not require opening it. The «e» key starts quick editing on the card itself, which allows the title to be changed or a label assigned without losing sight of the board.

Completing and archiving

A card can be marked as complete, which adds its indicator and keeps it in its list, or archived, which removes it from the board.

Archiving does not delete. Archived content remains in «Archived items», inside the board menu, and can be restored from there. That is the difference that matters: an archived card is recoverable.
